Our Mission Statement
Triangle Transit improves our region’s quality of life by connecting people and places with reliable, safe, and easy-to-use travel choices that reduce congestion and energy use, save money, and promote sustainability, healthier lifestyles, and a more environmentally responsible community.
Durham Transit Management
- Continue to operate a fiscally responsible public agency utilizing good business principles.
- Work with cities, counties, Metropolitan Planning Organizations and other interested parties in examining transportation corridors, considering land use, economic activity, population patterns, and connections among these three elements and transportation.
- To provide safe, secure and reliable service that protects employees and passengers and minimizes property damage to vehicles and facilities.
Triangle Transit also operates the Durham Area Transit Authority (DATA) for the City of Durham. By contract, Triangle Transit will manage the city’s fixed route bus service and paratransit service for an initial term of three years, through October 1, 2013. Triangle Transit holds monthly Durham transit public input meetings on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at Durham Station. Triangle Transit is responsible for overseeing operations, daily management, service planning and marketing.
The final approval of all routes, DATA’s operating budget and major policy decisions rests with the Durham City Council as part of its annual budget process. DATA’s fixed route system includes 52 buses providing over 15,000 passenger trips daily on 18 different bus routes. The Access paratransit system includes 46 vans and transports clients to various places within the City of Durham.
DATA aims to provide Durham with effective transit service – service that builds public support and increases awareness of how public transportation contributes to the quality of life. DATA offers comfortable and safe mobility and accessibility to universities, hospitals, schools, businesses, and shopping centers through transit services that contribute to congestion relief, cleaner air, and economic development.
