  • Route 100 – Eliminate service to District Drive Park-and-Ride lot, extend Saturday evening service, add Sunday service
  • Route 311 – Eliminate service on Development Dr, Davis Dr, Louis Stephens Dr and NC 54 to avoid duplicative service with other Triangle Transit routes. Serve the EPA and NIEHS only in one direction (from the Regional Transit Center in the morning and towards the Regional Transit Center in the afternoon). Service to all other bus stops in Apex and along NC 55 will be maintained.
  • Route 400 – Eliminate service to New Hope Commons, extend Saturday evening service, add Sunday service

Route 100 - View New Schedule

Approved service changes

  • Eliminate District Drive bus stop during weekday midday and evening due to low ridership.
  • Extend Saturday service to 11:15pm. The last departure from the Regional Transit Center would occur at 10:30pm.
  • Add Sunday service from 6:40am to 7:15pm. The first departure from the Regional Transit Center would be at 7:30am. The last departure from the Regional Transit Center would be at 6:30pm.
  • Additional Saturday and Sunday service would also be provided on Routes 400, 700, and 800.

Reason for changes

  • There is very low ridership at District Drive during midday and evening on weekdays.
  • The Durham County and Orange County Bus and Rail Investment Plans include later Saturday evening service and new Sunday service. Triangle Transit is implementing the regional transit services in Durham and Orange counties that are funded through the new revenues collected by the half cent sales tax. Customers using these routes will want to transfer to the Route 100 and additional service on this route will be paid for from the Triangle Transit General Fund.
  • Weekend service to RDU Airport is a highly requested service that will be provided on Route 100 with this change.

Route 311 - View New Schedule and Map

Approved service changes

  • The route would no longer serve stops on Louis Stephens Dr, Development Dr, Davis Dr., and NC 54. Students and staff attending the Research Triangle High School can travel to the Regional Transit Center to transfer to Routes 47 or 805. Customers going to other locations in South RTP can use the Shuttle 49.
  • Serve bus stops at the EPA and NIEHS only in one direction (from the Regional Transit Center in the morning and towards the Regional Transit Center in the afternoon). In the morning when travelling northbound on NC 55, the bus would use the Triangle Expressway, NC-54 and Emperor Blvd to get to the Regional Transit Center. After departing the Regional Transit Center, the bus would use Hopson Rd to serve stops at the EPA and NIEHS. In the afternoon when travelling northbound on NC 55, the bus would use T W Alexander Dr to serve NIEHS and EPA before using Hopson Rd to get to the Regional Transit Center. After departing the Regional Transit Center, use Emperor Blvd, NC 54 and the Triangle Expressway to get to NC 55.

Reason for changes

  • According to census home and work data, there are over 1,500 commuters from Apex and West Cary near NC 55 travelling to various RTP employment destinations such as IBM and GlaxoSmithKline. By reducing the travel time from Apex and West Cary by 20 minutes, staff hopes to attract new customers travelling to RTP employment destinations as well as Durham and Chapel Hill.
  • A more direct and faster trip from the Regional Transit Center to EPA/NIEHS will attract riders transferring from other Triangle Transit routes (travel time reductions will be from 16 minutes to 10 minutes).
  • The route does not meet the Triangle Transit service standards for productivity. While most other Triangle Transit routes are seeing ridership increases, Route 311 ridership has been stagnant or decreasing in the last several years.

Stops affected

  • Stops served by other routes: All stops along Louis Stephens Dr, Development Dr., Davis Dr., and NC 54.
  • Stops where service will be in one direction only with this service change: US EPA, NIEHS, T W Alexander at Environmental Pkwy (relocated from Duke Medicine)

Route 400 - View New Schedule and Map!

View map of Park-and-Ride spaces at Patterson Place

Approved service changes

  • Eliminate service to New Hope Commons. Customers using New Hope Commons as a Park-and-Ride can use the Park-and-Ride spaces at Patterson Place (intersection of Witherspoon Blvd and McFarland Dr). Customers coming from Durham can use DATA Route 10A (Mon-Sat daytime) or Route 10 (Mon-Sat evenings, Sundays). Customers from Chapel Hill can transfer to/from DATA Route 10A or 10 at Patterson Place.
Staff will coordinate the schedules and operations between Triangle Transit and DATA to ensure that transfers can be facilitated as well as possible. It is estimated that the transfer time at Patterson Place will be 5-15 minutes for most times of the day, however customers may have longer wait times when travelling from New Hope Commons to Chapel Hill before 9:30am on weekdays and from Chapel Hill to New Hope Commons after 7:30pm on weekdays.
  • Extend Saturday service to 10:55pm. The last departures from the UNC Hospitals and Durham Station would occur at 10pm.
  • Add Sunday service from 7am to 6:55pm. The first departure from UNC Hospitals would be at 7:05am and from Durham Station would be 7am. The last departures from the UNC Hospitals and Durham Station would be at 6pm.
  • Additional Saturday and Sunday service would also be provided on Routes 100, 700, and 800.

Reason for changes

  • Route 400 is not consistently on-time with 20% of trips arriving late on weekdays and 30% of trips arriving late on Saturdays.  A routing change is needed to improve the on-time performance of the route.
  • Utilizes dedicated Park-and-Ride spaces at Patterson Place.
  • Reduces redundancy with DATA Routes 10/10A.
  • The Durham County and Orange County Bus and Rail Investment Plans include later Saturday evening service and new Sunday service. Triangle Transit is implementing the regional transit services that are funded through the new revenues collected by the half cent sales tax.

Route CRX - View New Schedule and Map!

Approved service changes

  • Schedule changes to improve reliability.
  • Eliminate District Drive bus stop from Route 100 during midday and evening due to low ridership.
  • Staff had originally proposed to eliminate the bus stops on Faircloth St due to low ridership at these stops (under 10 people per day). Since the route continues to go past these stops, we are not recommending the removal of these stops at this time.

Reason for changes

  • The CRX is not consistently on-time with 25% of trips arriving late.
  • More time is needed in the schedule to improve the reliability of the route. Every attempt will be made to match work start/end times and maintain transfers to other transit routes.

Route DRX - View New Schedule and Map!

View map of new Carter Finley Park-and-Ride spaces
View Frequently Asked Questions about Carter-Finley Park-and-Ride

Approved service changes

  • New Park-and-Ride location at Carter-Finley stadium for commuters travelling to Durham. District Drive Park-and-Ride will no longer be served on the DRX route. Coordination with the NC State Wolfline, PNC Arena, Carter-Finley stadium and the State Fair is planned to ensure that delays during events are minimal.
  • Midday and evening access via Route 100 will serve a bus stop on Blue Ridge Rd, but will not serve Carter-Finley Park-and-Ride directly.
  • No longer serve Faircloth St bus stop for customers commuting from Raleigh to Durham because the bus routing is altered. For commuters from Durham to Raleigh, the Faircloth St bus stop will continue to be served.
  • Schedule changes to improve the reliability of the route.

Reason for changes

  • The District Drive Park-and-Ride lot is over-capacity. Utilizing the existing Carter-Finley Park-and-Ride lot will allow all customers to have a parking space on a daily basis.
  • Very few customers (4 per day) utilize the bus stop on Faircloth St to commute from Raleigh to Durham. Due to the location of the Carter-Finley Park-and-Ride, the DRX route will no longer serve Faircloth Street heading towards Durham in the morning or towards Raleigh in the afternoon.
  • The DRX is not consistently on-time with 23% of trips arriving late.
  • More time is needed in the schedule to improve the reliability of the route. Every attempt will be made to match work start/end times and maintain transfers to other transit routes.

Stops affected

  • Added stop: Carter-Finley Park-and-Ride
  • Eliminated stops: District Drive Park-and-Ride
  • Eliminated stops for Raleigh-Durham commuters only: Faircloth St at Meredith College, Faircloth St at Beaver Dam Rd
