Easy Steps to Start a Vanpool
Just follow these easy steps to start a new vanpool and begin saving time, money, and stress!
1. Search for Other Riders
You and ten other riders are all you need to start a new 15-passenger vanpool. You will need 7 riders to start a new 7-passenger vanpool. Finding other commuters who are interested in vanpooling is easier than you think! Simply visit our online rideshare matching service or call 919-485-7461.
Our friendly staff will help promote your vanpool by:
- Providing you with flyers to post around your work and home locations
- Posting your forming vanpool on the Triangle Transit website
- Working with your employer (and other nearby employers) to spread the word to other commuters about your forming vanpool
- Holding promotional campaigns
2. Choose your drivers, route, and pick-up/drop-off location(s)
You must have a primary driver and at least one backup driver to start a vanpool. All potential drivers must be approved by Triangle Transit.

Once your drivers are approved by Triangle Transit, your group determines the pick-up and drop-off locations and times. Triangle Transit staff can help your group determine the shortest and most efficient route for your van, as well as assist with identifying pick-up and drop-off locations.
3. Complete your forms and pay the security deposit
Drivers sign the vanpool lease and riders each complete a form for Triangle Transit. The group then pays a $150 refundable security deposit.
4. Hit the Road!
Your vanpool is ready to go! Sit back and enjoy a cheaper, cleaner and less stressful commute!
